A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect starting Friday evening. Some of the snow will become mixed with rain on Saturday, mainly in areas along and south of I-70.

Airline passengers in the central US from Denver to St. Louis, Cincinnati and Chicago can expect direct impacts due to snow with flight delays, changes and cancellations.

Because the weekend is still days away, its too early to forecast snow amounts.

"For cities such as Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky and others, this will be the first significant snowstorm of the cold weather season", according to AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams. Further to the north a sharp cutoff will exist with places around Galena and Dubuque hardly seeing any accumulation at all as the snow fights off dry air. Portions of Central Kansas could see up to eight inches of snow.

The storm will move through the Plains on Friday, and spread snow into the area on Saturday. South of the Triad less than ½ inch of snow and sleet. A general 1"-4" of snow will be possible, with higher amounts possible across parts of northern Kentucky.
