Odds out on Urban Meyer becoming Cleveland Browns head coach

The Buckeyes were able to get Young on campus for an extended visit in April of his junior year and out-battled the Terrapins and Crimson Tide to land his commitment in July.

First, if Meyer does come back, it's going to have to be a flawless fit with the potential for him to turn it into a national title contender.

Urban Meyer was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1964 and grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, which is northeast of Cleveland.

Meyer's time in Florida over six years included two national championships. That style was the driving force behind Florida's national championships in 2006 and 2008, Tim Tebow's legendary four-year career that included the 2007 Heisman Trophy, the Gators' rise back to national prominence following the Ron Zook era, and a boom period for the SEC. But Meyer knew he couldn't go on the way things were this season. Included in that season was a second straight loss to Saban, a 31-6 beat down that turned a 4-0 season into a morass. He had been hospitalized after a high-profile loss to Alabama.

What is his salary at Ohio State? When Meyer brought his spread offense from Utah to Gainesville, Florida, it proved to the rest of college football that exotic offenses can be successful when they are combined with the smash mouth style of the SEC.

Ohio State didn't immediately say why Meyer was stepping down after seven years at Ohio State and an 82-9 record, but the 54-year-old coach has previously cited health concerns. Ohio State appointed a special group to investigate the situation, and after several weeks determined that Meyer had not acted properly in keeping Smith on staff despite a history of troubling behavior and did not represent the school well when he failed to tell the truth while answering questions about Smith's past during Big Ten media days in late July.

Those are pretty long odds against the Browns hiring Meyer, who does have some scandal factor and health issues involved in his departure from Ohio State.

Meyer, who has generally received positive press, particularly from ESPN, for whom he worked for a year as an analyst, found himself the subject of a series of ugly headlines earlier this season over his handling of assistant coach Zach Smith, the grandson of Earle Bruce, a former Ohio State coach and a mentor of Meyer.

The dude is just retiring away from his problems. That's especially the case because Meyer wasn't very good at TV. Turning a blind eye cemented Meyer as one of the college football coaches with bad reputations. "Absolutely not. I think he's had an incredible year, but I think it showed for itself yesterday". "The NCAA rules allow me to take another official visit to meet with coach Day, so I am going to do that after the state championship game".
