Will & Grace's Debra Messing Slams NBC for Airing 'Disgusting, Racist' Political Ad

NBC and Fox News Channel said Monday they will stop airing President Donald Trump's campaign advertisement that featured an immigrant convicted of murder.

Along with the NBC broadcast network, NBCUniversal allowed the ad to air multiple times on MSNBC before Monday's decision was made.

Marianne Gambelli, Fox News' president of advertising sales, said the commercial was pulled on Sunday "upon further review". The ad also contains footage of Luis Bracamontes, a man who killed two Northern California deputies in 2014 while he was in the country illegally. CNN dedicated substantial editorial coverage to the longer ad, sometimes showing clips as anchors and chyrons declared it "racist". Parscale didn't mention Fox News.

"After further review, we recognize the insensitive nature of the ad and have made a decision to cease airing it across our properties as soon as possible", said Joe Benarroch, a spokesperson for NBC's advertising sales department. "It will not appear on either Fox News Channel or Fox Business Network", she said in a statement on Monday. The ad, endorsed by President Donald Trump, was created to fire up fears of a migrant caravan headed toward the United States in advance of Tuesday's midterm elections.

So it's obvious why, from a breadth-of-reach perspective, the ad aired on Sunday night.

Facebook is still allowing its members to post the ad in their news feeds, however.

A commercial that aired during Sunday's National Football League game between the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers caused quite a firestorm.

"Instead, Parscale lambasted NBC, CNN, and Facebook and said the "#FakeNewsMedia" was "trying to control what you see and how you think".

"A lot of things are offensive", Trump responded. It concludes with a Trump voice-over saying: "I am Donald Trump and I approve this message".

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted, "CNN refused to run this ad..."

It was a shorter version of an ad that the president shared on Twitter last week, which falsely claimed about Bracamontes that Democrats "let him into our country" and "let him stay".

Before the ad aired, Trump had blamed Democrats for the 7,000-strong caravan. As for Facebook, where the campaign had deployed the video as a targeted advertisement, they explained it had violated the company's policy "against sensational content".
