Arsenal progress under Unai Emery plain to see in draw with Liverpool

After falling behind to James Milner's drive just after the hour mark, Arsenal responded impressively, carving out a fine chance for fan favourite Lucas Torreira just moments later.

So what's missing? Apathy, for one.

"Arsenal were under pressure because a lot of people were saying that on this run they hadn't played anyone of any substance", said former Arsenal striker Ian Wright on Match of the Day.

The first thing is that the Premier League is the first competition for us because it is giving us the big regularity in the season.

Alexandre Lacazette struck a late equaliser through Alex Iwobi's pass, as Arsenal and Liverpool shared the spoils in an entertaining Premier League clash.

This staggering tally of goals in unbeaten games has stretched a whopping 16 years for five clubs - Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Leeds - dating back to 2002 when he bagged his first goal for Leeds at the tender age of just 16.

Emery wants players that believe in his idea and his system of play, and he's slowly instilling that collective mentality in his players.

It's the reason that at the end, I think 1-1 is a good result for how we did in the 90 minutes after 1-0 when we are losing and it's the reason we are happy 50 per cent.

"The reaction of the team was ideal", goalkeeper Bernd Leno told Arsenal's official website afterwards.

"When you really look at him, he was really quiet today".

"We are nearer to this performance going forward, and it is not a bad point, but we need more".

To solve this, Emery has introduced two holding midfielders who are defensively minded.

More news: Klopp: Liverpool made more mistakes at Arsenal than the officials

Arsenal's resurgence is not exclusively down to the summer signing of the 22-year-old from Sampdoria. Torreira, however, is a hugely important addition.

Well, Klopp has had his say two months out from the January transfer window. Emery's determination to increase the fitness and work-rate of Wenger's players is now beginning to bear fruit, and those who were drifting last season are now pulling up trees.

With Bellerin doubtful, Stephan Lichtsteiner is expected to start at right-back, while midfielder Granit Xhaka will once again deputize as the left-back for the Gunners.

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, feels that this Liverpool side provide a very good template for The Gunners to focus on in the near future.

But Emery spoke in the build-up to this contest about wanting to write a new history for Arsenal and in this fixture there were signs his players are embracing the new era, which will have been a pleasant birthday treat for their boss.
