Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul trade punches during insane fight

By Saturday afternoon, the punishments would be handed out for all three.

Houston coach Mike D'Antoni disagreed with the severity of Paul's penalty. "I'm not going to guarantee no championship, I'll tell you that", he says in the interview. 'It Got insane at the end, but man I get so satisfied, deeply drinking in the depth and beauty of the game. "That doesn't seem to be right".

Paul said Rondo spat in his face, which led to the fracas that Lakers star LeBron James helped break up.

Ingram and Rondo will start their suspensions on Monday night when the Lakers host the San Antonio Spurs.

You know who did like the whole thing, though?

Rondo followed with the first punch - a left hook that connected with Paul's cheek - and the Rockets point guard responded in kind. The two started throwing punches after Rondo spit on Paul.

"What is he supposed to do?"

As that situation calmed, Paul and Rondo were face to face and that's when the fight, with several punches thrown ensued.

"In the heat of the moment when somebody does that, that's tough, that's really tough", D'Antoni said.

The incident took place in the fourth quarter of the contest, when James Harden drove the lane, and was fouled by Brandon Ingram. Houston's Chris Paul and the Lakers' Rajon Rondo soon traded swings; Ingram, Rondo and Paul were eventually tossed when order was restored.

The fight marred what should have been an exciting night for the Lakers, as it was LeBron James' home debut. National Basketball Association fights rarely get serious enough for the punches thrown by the principals in this brouhaha, and league discipline executive Kiki VanDeWeghe was actually in attendance. "That's blatant disrespect. That's unacceptable".

The fight could leave with both teams without key rotation players due to suspension.

Ingram's suspension is the most for an on-court incident since Metta World Peace levelled James Harden in a game at Staples Center in April 2012. Each length is fair, though it was kind of surprising to see only four games for Ingram since he incited the confrontations and then threw a punch, but there are rotational fallouts for the Lakers missing two starters this week.
