First Lady Melania Trump's Visit to Lilongwe, Malawi

After leaving the ambassador's residence, Mrs. Trump went to the State House for tea with Gertrude Mutharika, her Malawian counterpart.

The U.S. first lady landed in the capital, Lilongwe, on Thursday morning after a six-hour flight from Ghana.

The visit also included promoting the work of the U.S. Agency for International Development, whose funding President Donald Trump has twice proposed slashing by almost a third.

She is on her first-ever visit to Africa and her first extended solo global trip as first lady. Along with the soccer balls, the First Lady donated other Be Best items including tote bags with classroom supplies inside for the teachers, as well as Frisbees for the children.
