Netflix to let viewers choose endings of shows like 'Black Mirror'

There are no details on the Give Yourself Goosebumps-indebted episode, but assume it will involve an ironic twist involving password-sharing on a fictionial streaming service called, let's say, Netflicks. Just think of your favourite episode of "Black Mirror" and how big of a difference in the ending there could have been had you been in control! Shows with this video-game style choose-your-own-path feature are picking up slowly. The show is famous for exploring the social implications of technology, including an episode where humans jockey to receive higher ratings from their peers. After watching one version, the viewer can go back and choose the alternate scenario.

The interactive children's programming was rolled out to test the waters for adults, according to Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. However, if you're not living in fear of those things, then Netflix's foray into interactive television will be considered yet another prospective bellwether multimedia offering that's set to blow your mind. And interactive television shows may be an entertainment trend towards the future.

This won't be the first time Netflix has rolled out an interactive TV show, though. But the show, based on one of the world's most popular video games, is mostly finished and will be released later this year. I believe it will be nothing short of a tremendous success for Black Mirror, but I'll stop short today, of proclaiming it will be widespread to other Netflix Originals. Early this year, HBO released the Steven Soderbergh series Mosaic, which launched with an app that added an interactive element to follow different story threads.

We're excited, and scared...and we don't know whether to run away screaming or wait up and binge watch as we essentially become our own episode of Black Mirror.
