Rapper Mac Miller dead following apparent overdose

The music world took a huge hit on September 7 when 26-year-old rapper Mac Miller was found dead in his Studio City, CA home from an apparent drug overdose.

Paramedics found the rapper dead in his Los Angeles home, a local fire department spokeswoman said.

This statement pushes the reasoning for Miller's substance abuse directly onto Grande, even though he has been open about his struggles with drug and alcohol abuse since before the two became a couple.

According to TMZ on Friday (Sept. 7) Miller was found unresponsive at his San Fernando Valley home after authorities were alerted by a male who placed a 911 call, presumably from Mac's home. He began his career as a rapper as a teen, and his independent 2011 debut album Blue Slide Park went on to top the Billboard 200 album chart, putting him on the map at an early age.

His latest album, "Swimming", was released in August.

Miller went through a well-publicised break-up with singer and girlfriend Ariana Grande earlier this year.

TMZ - who originally broke the story wrote that the artist "had trouble recently with substance abuse...in the wake of his breakup with Ariana Grande".

Fellow hip hop stars Chance The Rapper, J Cole and Snoop Dogg paid tribute to Miller on Twitter.

Miller and Grande dated for almost two years before breaking up in May.

He continued releasing successful albums and mixtapes and in 2014, he signed with Warner Bros. I can not wait to know and support you forever, and I am so proud of you!' Mac's father loved him dearly and was really proud of Mac and everything he accomplished. "We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends".

In May, he was arrested for driving under the influence and hit and run when he wrecked his vehicle by crashing into a utility pole.

In an interview published just days before his death, Miller told NY magazine he was trying to tame his negative emotions. Vulture published a profile of him on Thursday.

Shehit back, saying: "How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn't the case (only Cinderella is ab me)."I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be". Would I rather that no one said anything and life just moved on normally?

This week, Grande performed her first United Kingdom show since the One Love Manchester benefit concert past year, playing an intimate set at London's KOKO.
