DeChambeau All But Punches Ryder Cup Ticket With Another Win

DeChambeau All But Punches Ryder Cup Ticket With Another Win

Coming off a four-shot victory last week, the 24-year-old physics major known as the "Mad Scientist" pulled away with three straight birdies to close out the front nine and was never seriously challenged the rest of the way to win the Dell Technologies Championship.

‎He is the first player to win the first two legs of the FedEx Cup playoffs since Vijay Singh in 2008 and the first to win in consecutive weeks since Justin Thomas in January 2017.

The United States' Ryder Cup team held a press conference today at the Philadelphia Marriott West in West Conshohocken to announce three of U.S. Captain Jim Furyk's captain's picks.

DeChambeau's victory in the second PGA Tour playoff event, following his previous win at the Northern Trust, increased his lead in the FedExCup standings with two tournaments left. Seven of the last eight winners have trailed going to the final round.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs began with the August 23-26 Northern Trust, after which the original field of 125 was cut to 100.

Captain Thomas Bjorn will make four at-large selections Wednesday, and it promises to be a tough decision with the likes of Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Thomas Pieters and Denmark victor Matt Wallace all under consideration. He led by as many as four shots, but his lead was reduced to one when he bogeyed 13 and Smith birdied 15 and 16.

Though Woods has not won since 2013, he finished runner up at the Valspar Championship and PGA Championship this season. He played with Keith Mitchell, another PGA Tour rookie, who birdied his last two holes for a 69.

Tiger Woods, who is one of Furyk's vice-captains has got the nomination alongside Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.

Phil Mickelson, who is also expected to earn one of Furyk's discretionary selections, also reminded the USA captain of his credentials with a magnificent closing day 63 for a 10-under-par overall total.

Tiger Woods is returning to the Ryder Cup as a player for the first time in six years.

With Thomas Bjorn's Ryder Cup team set to be finalised tomorrow when the Dane selects his four wildcards, fans still have the chance to watch Europe's best during Ryder Cup week at Le Golf National with limited tickets still available. He was also ninth in the Ryder Cup standings, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification. "But it certainly doesn't hurt". The top 30 after that event will move on to the Tour Championship.
