Omarosa Releases New Tape Of Trump Appearing Unaware She Was Fired

Manigault Newman worked in the White House for almost a year as an assistant to the president and the director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison.

Newman released a clip of her call with Trump after she was sacked by Kelly to NBC, where the president claimed that he was unaware of her firing. He could not go into specifics about why she was sacked or how she was able to get a recording device in the room.

Trump's pushback comes after Manigault Newman released another audio recording Monday.

"Is General Kelly running this country", Omarosa Manigault Newman asked this morning on NBC's Today show, "or is the president running this country?"

"They take me into the Situation Room, the doors are locked, they tell me I can't leave and they start to threaten me, put fear in me, to put me under duress", she said.

Some security experts are concerned the recordings could have compromised national security.

Would a court impose a prior restraint on the release of all audio recordings?

Other than by media osmosis, I have no idea who Omarosa Manigault Newman is. She added that the president "probably instructed General Kelly to do it so that he could keep his hands clean".

Mr. Trump hit back at the former "Apprentice" contestant's claims on Monday, saying she "begged" him for a job, in tears. She offered no evidence.

"I heard his voice as clear as you and I are sitting here", she said on the show.

The book is due to be released next week, but CNN obtained a copy on Friday.

Ms. Manigault Newman stood by her decision to make the secret recordings.

Privately, many are wondering how many tapes she might have - and whether they are heard speaking on them.

Meanwhile, Maggie Haberman at the New York Times quotes Trump as calling Manigault-Newman a "lowlife."

The president also claimed that he "would rarely see her", despite claims from Manigault Newman and other White House officials that the two frequently had contact. "Because I've talked to him subsequently, and he said he delegated".

From left, Counsellor to the President Kellyanne Conway, White House Director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison Omarosa Manigault, and White House Communications Director Mike Dubke a year ago.

Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel tweeted: "Who in their right mind thinks it's appropriate to secretly record the White House chief of staff in the Situation Room?"

The Situation Room "is the inner sanctum within an already-secure facility where the most sensitive of the most sensitive information is discussed", Price said. "Not only is it not typical, something like this is unprecedented".

Price said cellphones and recording devices are not allowed in the room, though aides are not screened before entering.

In her new memoir, "Unhinged: An Insider's Account of the Trump White House", due in stores Tuesday, Omarosa details an unsuccessful quest to find a tape dating back to Trump's "Apprentice" days where he uses the n-word. When you walk into a meeting with John Kelly, who has refused to meet with me the whole time he's there, in the Situation Room, Chuck.
