Fekir staying at Lyon despite FFF chief's medical claims

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is notoriously tough in transfer business but it is my understanding the deal has not fallen down because Liverpool tried to renegotiate the terms of the deal.

It could be just a minor hitch but rumours are circulating it could be due to the player's injury record, with Fekir suffering a serious knee injury three years ago.

The 24-year-old's switch to Merseyside was expected in the coming days with contract talks ongoing between the English club and Lyon.

Whether or not Liverpool will try to negotiate a deal for Fekir after the World Cup remains to be seen but Jurgen Klopp might now be looking for an alternative.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Lyon attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir in the summer transfer window.

In fact, latest reports from RMC Sport claim that the French worldwide has already passed his medical in France, and Liverpool could announce his arrival later today.

On Saturday, the club confirmed that Fekir will remain in Lyon, for next season at least: "Amid interest from Liverpool and other clubs, Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to confirm that our captain will be with us for the 2018/19 season when we will be competing in the Champions League".

"He's in the middle of negotiations and I think it's done", he said.

Fekir is due to fly to Russian Federation with France's World Cup squad after their game against the U.S. on Saturday.

Nevertheless, they have already made some impressive additions in time for next season, with Naby Keita and Fabinho joining the Reds from Leipzig and Monaco respectively.

ESPN's Liverpool correspondent Glenn Price discusses why Nabil Fekir would be the player to finally replace Philippe Coutinho. There has also been some speculation that the Frenchman may move after the World Cup, but Lyon's actions today have made that seem less likely.
