Snapdragon 850 targets laptops with 25hr battery life

To our knowledge, Qualcomm is going to have Snapdragon 855 (maybe 860 or even 1000 brand for PC) powered with Snapdragon X50 5G machine in 2019 too.

While no new devices were announced at Qualcomm's press event, Samsung joined the stage to say we can expect a Snapdragon-powered PC from it later this year. The Snapdragon 850 SoC has been designed for the Always On, Always Connected Windows PC category that was unveiled by Microsoft and Qualcomm previous year alongside the such first PCs, meant to deliver long battery life and constant cellular connectivity. All presumably running on Windows 10.

Technically, the Snapdragon 850 uses the same core IP as SD 845 SoC for smartphones. You've got the same Kryo 385 CPU cores, 84-bit architecture, same RAM support, 10nm (2nd gen) process, same Adreno 630 GPU, same video codec and capture support, etc. Qualcomm did up the CPU speed to 2.96GHz, though.

The Snapdragon 850 boasts a 30 percent increase in performance, three times the AI performance, and a 20 percent increase in battery life and Gigabit LTE speed compared to its predecessor.

Qualcomm revealed the platform at Computex yesterday. The new chip promises to provide high fidelity HD sound thanks to Qualcomm Aqstic and aptX audio. The new Qualcomm X20 LTE modem - Cat.18 LTE - also supports almost all global operators for Gigabit LTE, by reducing the Listed Assisted Access (LAA) licensed requirement to only 10MHz.

Though the AI market for Windows is still nascent, Qualcomm does support the Microsoft Machine Learning SDK and Windows ML with the AI Engine integration.

Support for 64-bit Microsoft Edge web browser will be provided after the Windows 10 April 2018 Creators Update, along with compatibility to play HDR videos, run legacy apps, and listen to Hi-Fi audio.

The Snapdragon 850 is built with the "2nd Generation" of 10 nm and Qualcomm was not exhausted to mention that Intel is still on 14 nm and has troubles bringing 10 nm to the market.
