Addicted to Your iPhone? Apple Screen Time Will Tell You

Helping consumers and parents combat addiction and encourage healthier relationships with technology is expected to be on Apple's agenda at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday.

An App Limits feature will let you limit how much you use an app in a single day, and iOS 12 will send you alerts when you're near that limit. Parents will also be able to monitor and limit the device usage for their children.

Another new feature of iOS 12 is focused on Apple's digital assistant, Siri. A new feature called Screen Time will give you insights into how you are using your phone.

Apple announced in January that it planned to rework its parental control features and how it can help people curb their iPhone cravings.

iOS 11 required users swipe up from the bottom, and then long press on the app they want to close. FaceTime will now also be able to host Animoji and Memoji.

It will also add new features to help users clean up desktops, preview photos, alter screenshots and an app to create password-protected PDFs.

Also arriving on iOS 12 for iPad this year is iPhone's proprietary Voice Memo utility, which will allow Apple tablet users to create voice memos just like on iPhone.

There are a lot of iOS 12 features that Apple didn't talk about on stage yesterday but are noteworthy.

Many pointed out the obvious, which is: who among us even has 31 people to chat with in the first place??

The report in NYT claims that under the deal "Facebook allowed the device companies access to the data of users' friends without their explicit consent", and this was done even after the company had claimed it would not share information with outsiders. It also includes the same new camera effects like iMessage, so you can add filters or Animoji to your face on the call.

The tech giant said updates mean the new operating system will run up to 40% on all devices, including older ones compatible for the update.

A standout improvement coming to iOS 12 is upgrades to its augmented reality functionality.

Apple announced that it's finally bringing group calling support to its FaceTime video messaging app, allowing up to 32 individuals to call and join in on a single FaceTime livestream between connected and compatible Mac, iPhone and iPad devices.

Apple is also planning an update to ARKit, its platform for developers to build augmented-reality experiences on iPhone and iPads, which it initially announced past year.

Apple said a key component of iOS 12, which powers the iPhone and iPad, was to improve the performance of the software across its devices. Instead of saying Safari shouldn't block Like buttons or comment fields, Stamos argued Apple should have gone further. She will order your coffee using the mobile order feature in a coffeehouse app, start navigation directions and play the podcast you want.
