Paramount CEO Confirms That Two STAR TREK Films Are In Development

This announcement comes not long after Paramount Pictures confirmed it was working on new Star Trek projects.

S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to direct "Star Trek 4", making her the first female to helm a film in the "Star Trek" franchise.

This is certainly exciting news for the millions of fans and it remains to be seen what is in store for the franchise with the projects announced to be made.

It's important to note that at this point Paramount has not officially given any official green light to any Star Trek film, however the mention of Skydance's involvement is a key important step.

Paramount Pictures has begun propulsion power on the fourth Star Trek film initiated by Bad Robot. Sources now say the film is being written and would not debut until after Star Trek 4.

Watch this space for more news on the forthcoming Star Trek movies as it flies in... The British director helmed early episodes of Marvel's Jessica Jones and The Defenders for Netflix, and her TV helming credits also include episodes of Vinyl, Dig and Orange Is the New Black. That script is being written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Overlord).

The prevailing presumption underlying the several possible Star Trek scripts was that Paramount was pursuing a model similar to what Warner Bros. did with Wonder Woman: developing multiple scripts, then picking a favorite.

Paramount's Jim Gianopulos touted two Trek films. Many box office watchers believe confusion over how Rogue One: A Star Wars Story related to the characters and events introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have hurt its box office (that said, it still cleared a billion dollars).

Of course, the franchise could boldly go in another direction too - a movie with the CBS All-Access Cast could happen.
