Bill Cosby convicted on aggravated sexual assault charges

The first trial against Cosby ended in a hung jury previous year after the jury deliberated for more than 50 hours over the course of six days. "When all is said and done, women were finally believed".

Cosby did, however, vocalize briefly before the verdict was read. She and Cosby were once friends.

A Pennsylvania jury has found Bill Cosby guilty of sexual assault in a trial that could send the comedian to prison for ten years. But the defense team made an unsubtle attack on it when lawyer Kathleen Bliss told the panel that "when you join a movement based mostly on emotion and anger, you don't change a damn thing", adding that "mob rule is not due process". Jurors deliberated for 14 hours before reaching a verdict, the AP reports. "She was the first courageous person who stood up in public and went to authorities and said, 'Bill Cosby drugged and raped me'".

The prosecution painted Cosby as the real "con", who exploited his fame as "America's Dad" to betray women's trust by drugging and sexually assaulting them against their will. Five of the other accusers testified against him at the retrial.

In addition to Constand, five women who have never before confronted Cosby in a criminal courtroom took the witness stand.

Prosecutors said the 80-year-old comedian drugged and molested a woman at his home in 2004.

The star witness for the defense was Marguerite Jackson, Temple employee who testified that Constand once spoke of setting up a prominent person and suing.

The sedative was a popular party drug before the USA banned it more than 30 years ago. Cosby yelled, according to multiple reporters who attended the trial. "I feel like I'm dreaming".

Jackson claims that Constand told her while rooming together on a university basketball trip in February 2004 - a month after the alleged assault - that she could set up a celebrity for cash.

Jurors in Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial are kicking off a second day of deliberations by revisiting the testimony of a star defence witness who cast doubt on accuser Andrea Constand's credibility.

His defense team tried to paint Constand as a con artist who showed romantic interest in the comedian in order to concoct false assault allegations and secure a almost $3.4-million civil settlement, at one point calling her a "pathological liar".

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand and Dickinson have done.

Jurors, however, did hear depositions Cosby gave in 2005 and 2006 as part of a civil suit Constand filed against him.

Constand was in the court room in Norristown, just outside Philadelphia, as the verdict was read out to stifled sobs in the gallery. It was revealed that Constand received $3,4 million from Cosby after the two settled out of court.
