California woman who drove family off cliff was drunk: sheriff

The vehicle itself and the four members of the Thottapilly family have not been recovered from the Eel River, which remains too unsafe for divers to enter, but searchers along the banks located numerous items consistent with a Honda vehicle and interior, and items consistent with a family traveling on vacation, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Initially, Allman said the body was that of a child but the sheriff's office later corrected that it was a woman's.

The Sheriff's Office says the woman was found on exposed ground that had been covered by the river in recent days because of a storm.
