House Speaker Paul Ryan not seeking reelection

You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history.

The New York Times reported that Ryan will announce to colleagues that he isn't going to run for another term.

US House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Wednesday he has been assured by the White House that President Donald Trump does not intend to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein over their Russian Federation probe. He has been a fundraising juggernaut ahead of the midterms this fall, and helped translate GOP agenda items into legislation such as a series of tax cuts and rolling back banking legislation put in place under Democrats. The most significant measure failed in the Senate past year. Our oldest was 13 years old when I became speaker.

The leadership race will not be decided until after the November elections, during a closed-door secret-ballot contest, and the victor won't take the gavel until January 2019 when the new Congress is sworn in. But Ryan downplayed that it would be a distraction.

"We are with you Paul!" he wrote.

Ryan, a Republican from Janesville, Wisconsin, was first elected to Congress in 1998. The Times-Picayune, Scalise demurred when asked about the possibility of becoming House speaker.

If McCarthy, who's been viewed skeptically by the most conservative members of the House GOP caucus, stumbles again, it could open the door for Scalise.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said Mr Ryan's departure was an ominous sign for Republicans, months away from nationwide elections.

Senator Ron Johnson (R) had praise for Ryan's efforts. The congressional district in southeast Wisconsin borders IL and includes his hometown of Janesville, Racine and Kenosha on Lake Michigan, and the southern Milwaukee suburbs. "We should all be grateful for his sacrifice and understand his desire to be a full-time dad".

"I think we have achieved a heck of a lot", Ryan added.

In 2017, Meadows, along with caucus members Jim Jordan of OH and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania took their concerns about their conservative agenda directly to Ryan, per The Washington Post.

Stefanik, R-Willsboro, has served with Ryan, R-Wisconsin, in the House since 2015.

Growing emotional at points, Ryan said family considerations weighed heavily on his retirement, explaining that his daughter was 13 when he became speaker and he did not want to be a remote figure in her teenage years. And she commends him for his "steadfast commitment to our country". "During his final months, Democrats are hopeful that he joins us to work constructively to advance better futures for all Americans".

Ryan's plans have been the source of much speculation for several weeks.

Tributes poured in from fellow Republicans including Trump, who called him "a truly good man". President Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

Ruyan cited family reasons for his decision.

McCarthy sought to replace former GOP Speaker John Boehner in 2015 but couldn't collect enough votes, opening the way for Ryan, then chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, to step forward.

Ryan, 48, plans to proceed to serve out his full time interval and retire in January, Brendan Buck, counselor to the speaker, talked about in an announcement to Fox Data. Ryan was critical of Trump's demeanor during the 2016 campaign, but he soon swallowed those criticisms when Trump won.
