Presenting The All-New 2019 Toyota RAV4

Instead, the RAV4 has actually shank a wee bit in height and length, while it is slightly wider.

Well, the first-generation slogged through a 16-year cycle, but as consumer demands increased, vehicle life cycles decreased in retrospect.

However, Toyota Canada is in the process of retooling its North Plant in Cambridge, Ont., in order to also build the RAV4 as it moves Corolla production there to the United States. And the grandfather of the crossover segment is looking younger than ever: less cute 'ute and more brute youth. At the moment, all hybrid models are built in Japan. For this all-new second-generation model, the "iM" suffix is gone, and henceforth, this five-door will be known simply as the Corolla Hatchback.

The originator of the sedan-based crossover is now in its fifth generation. On the other end of the spectrum, the new RAV4 Hybrid XSE is billed as the sportiest model. This is available only on black, blue, and a new of-the-land greenish hue called Lunar Rock.

The RAV4 Hybrid will follow in February of 2019.

Cabin-wise, standard gear includes an adjustable driver seat, a 7-inch info display and a digital display rear view mirror for extra field of vision.

Look, Ma! Toyota's Entune will finally play nice with Apple CarPlay! An optional 8-inch can be had with navigation, as can wireless charging and a JBL premium audio system.

"The combination of Toyota's latest hybrid system and a new Dynamic Force petrol engine will deliver impressive power output and exceptional energy efficiency", Mr Hanley said. Horsepower and fuel economy figures are not yet available but the automaker says consumers can expect improved, even best-in-class, numbers with the new model.

The hybrid model comes with retuned suspension and this makes it the fastest and the best-handling model of the RAV4 family, as informed by Toyota. It's expected lower-grade versions will be front-wheel drive. The standard one is now supplemented by a torque-vectoring setup on Limited and Adventure models that also includes a clever rear driveline disconnect system.

The standard Safety Sense system - which includes automatic emergency brakes and adaptive cruise control that works between 0 and 110 miles per hour - is getting a lane tracing system that allows for hands-on self-steering between the lane markers, and can follow the auto in front of it for the short moments that it loses sight of them, as long as you keep a hand touching the wheel to let it know you're paying attention.

Almost a quarter of a decade later, at the 2018 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) taking place this week, the Japanese will be introducing the fifth generation of the model.
