Republican Senator Expects Trump To Pull Out Of Iran Deal

"The constant ultimatums by U.S. President Donald Trump have created an atmosphere of doubt that ultimately blocks the successful implementation of the nuclear agreement", Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said ahead of the talks, as reported by dpa news agency. So we were not really thinking the same.

Some Trump aides expect Tillerson's named replacement, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, to scratch one key Tillerson nominee: Susan Thornton, a career diplomat who had been in line to assume the State Department's top East Asia post, dealing with China and North Korea.

In a letter sent to Congress on March 13, Trump wrote that Iran "pose [s] an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States", extending what is described as a national emergency with regards to Iran. USA sanctions will resume unless Trump issues fresh "waivers" to suspend them on May 12. "It may well be the first casualty of Tillerson's ousting will be the end of the Iran deal". He told a parliamentary committee in Tehran on Wednesday that Tillerson's ouster was proof that Trump would pull out and promised that Iran would withdraw if the United States does. If the president trashes the nuclear deal, Iran will likely restart its nuclear program, as it has already stated.

Araqchi said he discussed the "violations" of the nuclear deal with EU, Russia, Germany and France on the eve of the joint committee meeting, adding that he would hold bilateral negotiations with other delegations, without specifying if he had the intentions to meet the U.S. delegation on the sidelines of the negotiations.

Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are scheduled to make a joint visit in April to Washington, although the newspaper stressed that Iran will not be the focus of negotiations with Trump, it pointed out that the visit aims to prevent a real unwanted war with Iran.

As a congressman, Pompeo opposed the Obama-era Iran agreement as "unconscionable", and he said after Trump's election that he was looking forward to "rolling it back". USA sanctions will resume unless Trump issues fresh "waivers" to suspend them on May 12.

Tillerson and Trump did not know each other prior to the 2016 election, and it seems Tillerson never gained the president's trust.

Congressional aides who've worked with him say that Pompeo is a smart guy, level-headed and reasonable.

A senior Iranian official warned the EU Saturday that any new, non-nuclear sanctions imposed in an effort to appease the Trump administration was a "big mistake", warning the move would directly affect the the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

Mr Kimball suggested it would be foolhardy to pull the plug on the Iran deal in the same month that he was likely to ask the North Koreans to sign up to a similar arrangement.

Analysts agree that should some Sunni Arab countries team up with Israel against Iran, Iran would not limit itself to responding with missiles.

It might also encourage other countries, namely the UK, France, and Germany, to pull out of the deal as well.
