Phil Spencer Wants Xbox/PlayStation Cross Platform Play in Fortnite

The PC, Xbox One, and newly-announced mobile versions of Fortnite will be patched to include a variety of cross-platform features, developer Epic Games has announced.

Epic Games took the same concept - 100 players battling it out on an island - and relaunched their own game under the name "Fortnite: Battle Royale" last September.

For those who have been anxiously awaiting Fortnite's iOS Mobile invite signup, it is now live! iOS users can now signup using a new account or by using their existing PC, Xbox, or Playstation accounts.

It features the same map, the same content updates, the same unlockables, gameplay and more.

Epic says, "We believe this is the future of games". "Microsoft has always been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of multiplatform games and the potential to connect players through PCs, mobile devices and all consoles".

Fortnite Mobile will also be coming to Android at a later date. Keep in mind cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase doesn't carry over between PS4 and Xbox One until Microsoft and Sony come to terms with making it possible. Epic also states that invites will be sent out in phases.

According to Epic Games, sign ups for Fortnite mobile are scheduled to begin Monday, March 12. The website shouldn't be down for too long, but until it comes back up, players can always monitor the Epic Games homepage for new changes. Phil Spencer, executive vice president of gaming at Microsoft and head of the Xbox division, agreed with a Fortnite fan's Twitter post saying he wants to see cross-platform play between the Xbox One and PS4.
