Big Blue releases veteran Rodgers-Cromartie

Rodgers-Cromartie has been asked to take a significant pay-cut (he's set to count $6.5 million against the cap).

Rodgers-Cromartie will be the most accomplished slot cornerback on the free agent market, and that is a position of need for the Colts.

The New York Giants have told veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie that he's being released, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Rodgers-Cromartie's release comes on the heels of the Giants cutting punter Brad Wing on Saturday, which saved Big Blue $1.025 million in cap space.

Rodgers-Cromartie spent four seasons with the Giants, playing 61 out of a possible 64 games.

The 31-year-old Rodgers-Cromartie started five of 15 games last season and failed to record an interception for the second time in his career.

Rodgers-Cromartie, who turns 32 on April 7, has been a versatile playmaker and popular player the past four seasons in NY.

Rodgers-Cromartie expressed his thanks to the Giants organization on an Instagram post. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, he has 30 interceptions in 10 seasons with the Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Giants.

It will be interesting to see how Harrison's comments that "52 other players who should be asked to do the same thing" as Rodgers-Cromartie - referencing being asked to take a pay cut - plays in a locker room that became divided amid a disastrous 3-13 2017 season.
