The Grinch Trailer Features A Mean Benedict Cumberbatch

Ron Howard's 2000 big-budget adaptation Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas received mixed reviews upon release but it was an unqualified box office smash, spending four weeks atop the North American box office and ultimately becoming the second highest-grossing holiday film ever behind Home Alone, with over $345 million. The new teaser includes a sly inside joke, as the Grinch is woken up - and annoyed - when his alarm clock plays Pharrell Williams's relentlessly upbeat song "Happy", the Oscar-nominated tune from "Despicable Me 2".

The Grinch has been directed by Scott Mosier and Yarrow Cheney, with a script penned by Michael LeSieur. It's appealingly crafted, and the trailer does a good job of hitting the familiar Seuss beats, while giving the Grinch a subtly evolved personality. However, as the official synopsis says, his plan goes awry as his "heart [is] changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit".

Benedict Cumberbatch is extraordinarily grouchy, unforgivingly heartless and downright mean.in the new trailer for The Grinch. But each year, his Who neighbors disrupt his tranquility with bigger, brighter and louder Christmas celebrations.

The trailer is little more than a tease - we see The Grinch and his dog Max grumpily stomping around his cave, enviously looking down at the people of Who-ville and all the happiness they feel around Christmas time. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch's more nefarious one.
