Battle Royale Coming To iOS And Android — Fortnite On Mobile

Fortnite is a battle royale type multiplayer game in which you face off against 99 other players. But now it's truly setting itself apart with a mobile port.

Epic Games announced yesterday evening one of its most popular games right now, Fortnite Battle Royale, is set to launch on iOS. Thanks to a partnership with Sony, the game will support cross-play and cross-progression between PS4, PC, Mac, iOS, and (eventually) Android.

In the announcement, Epic Games explained that the mobile version of the game will be identical to the console and PC version: "same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates".

"On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac", Epic Games confirmed in a blog post. Millions are playing the free-to-play shooter, and its twist on the battle royale genre has been a complete hit for Epic Games.

Obviously inspired by PUBG, Fortnite has become a giant unto itself.

Players who get an invitation will also get several invites to send to friends as well, so congrats to all you people with Apple products. Fortnite briefly and accidentally proved such cross-console play was possible back in September, and Epic Games later said players "deserve" such features.

It'll also allow "Fortnite" players to play the game wherever they bring their mobile devices - away from the constraints of home consoles and computers. An "invite event" will be starting on iOS soon.

From Monday, iOS users can sign up to declare their interest in an upcoming "Invite Event" with selected invitations being rolled out over a period of time afterwards. The company says it will be adding players over "the coming months" so it sounds like this is still going to be very much in the trial phase. This seems more like a beta test of sorts than an official launch, so it's now uncertain when will Fortnite be on mobile for everyone.

The iOS version is being made for iOS 11 on an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, or better.
