The four-door AMG GT is finally here

4-Door Coupe? That's the best they could come up with?

Every version can get from 0-60mph in less than 4.5 seconds, with the 63 S capable of smashing past 60mph in three seconds flat.

This is closely followed by the AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ with 585 hp, the V8 unit provides 585 hp and 800 Nm maximum torque. Further complicating things, the Four-Door Coupe had to maintain the rigid body structure that let the original grand tourer handle so well, whether on street or track.

There's also a 1.4-litre petrol engine making 161bhp and 250Nm of torque available in the A 200, measuring fuel economy of 51.4mpg, while the A 250 uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine with 221bhp and 350Nm of torque, registering 45.6mpg. Uniquely to this auto, however, the addition of Mercedes' EQ technology allows for an electrified bump of 22hp and 185lb ft, bestowing it with a 0-62 time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 177mph.

The inline-six model comes with the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission, with a torque converter, while the V8s send their power using the AMG Speedshift MCT 9G, which ditches the torque converter for a multi-plate clutch system. The all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased, and on the GT 63 S, it even includes a standard drift mode that completely disengages the front wheels.

All AMG GT 4-door models come with excellent features such as stop/start, stability control, and more. Underneath there's rear-wheel steering that helps agility as well, turning the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds below 62mph. "At the same time, the lateral force on the rear wheels builds up considerably faster on changes of direction, thus improving the response to the steering". Exact specs for the entry-level six cylinder are still to be announced, but the V8 available from launch will be available in two states of tune.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed prices for the new A-Class, which is on sale now.

Extra-cost appearance options include a Night Package with glossy black trim, a Chrome Package that goes the other way, and a couple carbon fiber trim packages, as well as aerodynamic options that amp up the aggressive looks; these can include an active, extendable rear spoiler. Mercedes-AMG will also offer options in rear seating, for two passengers or three passengers, with a bench seat or two individual seats.

In recent weeks, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has been teased more often than an old-time burlesque ecdysiast but, finally, the fan dance is over and we can see it in all its sheet metal glory at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
