Watch Bill Gates Guess Grocery Store Prices-And Fail Miserably

According to the rules of the game, if Gates could guess how much three out of five grocery items cost, within a dollar of the actual price, he and the audience would win.

In a game coined "Bill's Grocery Bills" by Ellen he is asked how long ago he visited a supermarket to which he replied "a long time ago".

Gates officially became a billionaire when he was 31 - the youngest billionaire in history, at the time. He thought a box of Rice-A-Roni was four times more expensive than its actual price.

It showed as the billionaire missed four out of the five products.

He was way off on a package of Tide Pods, guessing $4, and the crowed audibly guffawed. DeGeneres corrected him: In reality, it sells for a little under $20.

He was more confident when confronted with dental floss. He also had no idea what Totino's Pizza Rolls or TGI Fridays spinach and artichoke dip cost. (For the record, it costs $3.66.) Of course, Gates has a far better excuse than, say, Lucille Bluth for his sticker shock: he's been a bit busy working to improve the world and global health, so perhaps we should give him a pass.

"I'm glad you're a billionaire", DeGeneres said. Let's go with $10, said Gates before the $19.97 price was revealed.

Later in the interview Ellen and Bill discuss his charity the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

DeGeneres praised Gates for his charitable work.
